The study trip to Washingon DC was a unique professional development opportunity, organised by Learning Capital in collaboration with sister companies in the US.

The 11-days study trip to Washington DC included visits to 4 well established early childhood centres and participation in the NAEYC Annual Conference & Expo.

Upon arrival, our participants were welcomed by Ms Elanna S. Yalow, Executive Vice President, Knowledge Universe & Vice Chair, Knowledge Learning Corporation and Ms Anissa Walker, Region Vice President of Operations, KinderCare Learning Centers who gave them an overview of the US childcare industry.  Sharing with participants the public policy issues, regulatory environment, competitive landscape, accreditation, future trends and business risks.  The centres visited included:

World Bank's Children Centre (CCLC)

KinderCare Learning Centre (Alexandria)

AOL Child Development Cente (CCLC)

KinderCare Learning Centre (Ashburn)

"The 2009 NAEYC Conference has been a learning experience for me.  The topics presented were varied and cover many areas in early childhood education. It was also a networking session where I interacted with academics from all over the world.  While we could have come from different countries with different cultures and practices, we all shared one common passion and that is, we are very dedicated in our work with young children.  Our centre visits was an eye-opener as well.  Teachers demonstrated pride and professionalism in their teaching, interactions with young children and building partnership with parents and the community." shared Fong Peng, a participant of the study trip.
