In the area of training, Kelly also lectures at National Institute of Education
(NIE) and other teacher training institutes. She conducts parents sharing and training
sessions at Autism Parent Support Groups organized by the Child Development Unit
– National University Hospital (NUH) and Autism Association Singapore (AAS) as well
as teacher training workshops for Non-Government Organisations (NGOs), private hospitals
and disability-centres in Indonesia, Malaysia and Myanmar.
She is also a Special Education Teacher with National University Hospital - The
Children Medical Institute - Child Development Unit. She design and develop programme
to provide support to help children with special needs to cope with academic and
social demands in the mainstream school environment. Conducts observation of children
with special needs in mainstream primary schools and preschools/ childcare centres
and recommend adaptations to learning environment and/or activities to maximize
learning and participation in class. She gives advice to parents and teachers on
behaviour management strategies for use at home and in school and collaborates with
professionals such as pediatricians, psychologists, speech therapists, occupational
therapists and physiotherapists, as well as schools on children's behaviours and
learning needs.
As an Educational Therapist since 1996, she works directly with toddlers to adolescence
diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), Asperger Syndrome, Attention Deficit
Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), cerebral palsy, intellectual disabilities, multiple
handicaps, speech and language delay, learning disabilities and social and emotional
difficulties with varying degree of severity.
